Current things I want to do:

* Call the psych.
* Call the SBA.
* Make, or assist someone in making, a DW app for the Droid.  (I appreciate DW's mobile site, buuut.)
* Apply to jobs.
* Retool rez for accounting jobs.
* ? profit? what? I had a thought...
* Test out caulking, to see if I remember how to do it.

Freakin' peaks and valleys, I swear.

Gah.  I need to find information on the laws in the US, and in Oregon, for how businesses must store credit card data in their databases -- encryption, length of time, whatever the hell.

I'm in the process of Googling this now, but if someone happens to know off the top of their head where some good info is, that'd be awesome.

Unrelated project: syncing Firefox's custom dictionary between computers.

Randomness.

* I've ordered two miniature smoke alarms, so that I can hack at least one of them apart and make it better.  I just need a teensy battery and a teensy LED or similar, and I will be happeh.  Also maybe a spring or something.  Not sure yet.

* I really really want an alternative to phpMyAdmin.  I like GUI; I like web-based; I am disenchanted with the clunkiness of it all.  For example, why on earth do I get a new window when I click Edit next to SQL?  Are we not in the AJAXy future?

* I now have two projects pages -- one for work, and one for myself.  For the latter, between that wiki page and my "projects" tag here, I should be good for always-available mental distractions.

* I kind of want an email-capable phone.

* I also kind of want a way to script scanning things in on this HP Scanjet flatbed scanner.

Step 1: Brownie bird pops.

Step 2: "I want an illithid-pop."

Step 3: http://www.ehow.com/how_5458556_make-homemade-jelly-beans.html

Step 4: "So from there, get special-shaped cooking trays things (ovalish!), pull out before they're solid, then affix (a) peeled twizzlers and (b) http://www.amazon.com/White-Black-2-Inch-Candy-Eyes/dp/B00086IBHK "

Step 5: Crack up.

Step 6: UNHOLY NOMS OF THE DEEP

Step 7: More giggling.

I found what I want to knit for Josh's mom:

I just need silver beads, instead of purple - the yarn I have is a very rich periwinkle, so silver would work nicely.

Reborn Dolls Battery Beating Heart

"These beating hearts are felt more easily than heard and are designed to be the closest sound and feel possible to the human heart. These heart beats come with batteries that are replaceable. Use in our bodies designed for holding beating hearts. No on/off switch or volume control knobs to fuss with, just give your baby a gentle hug and feel the soothing thump of this tiny heart. Hold your ear close to babies chest to hear the soft beating sound. What could be more real"

...I want, like, a case of these, so I can put them in my knitting.

You might be thinking knitted dolls, or knitted hearts.  I'm thinking scarves and hats.  Perhaps gloves.

"Here, feel this scarf."  *lubdub lubdub*  "WHARRRRGARBL"

Miskelion.

* Rubí brandy is also a bit more potent than what I usually get.  Good morning, hangover.  Banishing with coffee, water, ibuprofen, and an icepack, yay.

* Shit like this is why I generally prefer to learn about the world via feminist blogs.  Insofar as the Daily Mail has anything to do with the world.

* Okay so, where would I go to find good fanfic, in the worlds I like?  As in, I realise there's likely no one place that only has good fanfic... hm.  I suppose, help me craft good search terms and find good repositories for fanfic.

* Today's plans - getting this wireless card to be both recognised and useful, investigating whether the reasoning behind "if you (a man) have slept with a man, or you've slept with a man who has done the same, no blood donation for you!" is sound, DS9, reading up on Google Docs, some cleaning.

I got these last time I went glasses-shopping, which look like this on me.  I want to get a pair of backup glasses, Just In Case.

(Plus the part where these glasses are entirely fine, except for the screws.)

I'm considering getting these - partly the front view looks close enough to my current pair, and partly I can get them in metallic blue, yay.

Meow meow meow.

Also, I'm going to hit Free Geek after work and see what they have, computer-wise.  I want to find something that's decent - that's not terrible with speed, and that works with my existing wireless network card.  (If it doesn't, an inexpensive network card will suffice.)  I'd love to move over to Ubuntu all the time, except I fret that I won't be able to go back, and that I'll lose my music.

So, I'm going to see what I can find, and start the process of using a Ubuntu machine as my primary machine for a while.  We'll see.

Hongree.

Things.

* Website work is going well.  I'm learning a lot about PHP, which is nice.  Hee, three pages of to-dos.  Once those are done, I will be beyond pleased.  Nay, smug.

* Swelling-or-wtfever is down.  Still gonna investigate a dentist.  Still feeling mildly dizzy.

* Balance email totally matched what I have.  This is because I am awesome.  I now know exactly what I have, and what I can spend, and so forth.  Future iteration: create that faux-account nonsense.  Future == after another fortnight or so.

* I am trying to spritz my plant every morning.  It likes humidity, so I do what I can.  Note: must put hand towel on wall.  If I can keep this alive, then I'll look into another plant.  No more acquiring plants just because they're pretty.

Though maybe mint; as [livejournal.com profile] heinleinfan can attest to, mint will grow even if all you do is look at it cross-eyed once a year.  Plus [livejournal.com profile] penghuin likes mint juleps, so that's one use for 'em.

* I'm trying to use my projects tag more, so when I'm in want of something different to do, I can click the tag and see what's been in my head for the past [n] months.  V. pleasant.

I am ISO a not-terrible knowledgebase thing that's free or inexpensive.  Why: I have a background project at work to create a FAQ for our website, and I want something that anyone at work can easily contribute to.  So I'm looking for:

- not bloody terrible
- content, adurr
- categories or tags
- date updated
- moderated submissions from coworkers who != admin

That last puts Mediawiki out of the running, unless I'm missing something.

Danke!

* Also, knowing just how little I have sometimes makes me a bit upset with myself.  But, I made that additional reconciliation column, so now I know exactly what I have available.  Future iteration will combine this actual-money concept with an artificial-accounts thing, so I don't need to open anything else.

* I think that if I manage to set up a watering reminder and actually follow it for a while, then I'll let myself get another plant.  No more pretties until I can take care of the one I have.

Though it is notable that my current plant still lives.

Fret: what if I miswater my plant?  Response: get better.

* I kind of want a scooter.  Not like now, more like ever.  It'd be nice to not be tied to the bus if I want to do things like visit Josh for some of the day, or go out to the bar, or whatever.  Or my arms hurt and I want to go grocery shopping.  Or I want to go to the coast.  So, for my way-future reference.

I fucking love it here.  You guys, you guys, I fucking love it here, and I've only been here, what, a week?

I say this now: if DW manages to get it to where I can read my LJ friends list over here?  Eff LJ, I'm moving over here long-term-like.  I can't buy permanent just yet, but hey, month-to-monthly is just the price of not buying coffee that day.

(Note to self - set up xtina_rss feed here, for my WP blog.)

If you're here and you're not aware of changes, note two main UI additions:

1) New site scheme Celerity, mildly reminiscent of LJ's Vertigo.

2) New journal style Transmogrified, which I adore already.

I'm fairly certain there's... there must be a GM script for LJ, to... oh, you know what'd keep me busy?  Finding all the LJ-tagged GM scripts and seeing what'd be useful to port over to DW.  Most'd just be "Add DW to the includes", but some might not!

- I got to be in my land again!  I mapped out why I could never get anywhere from this one direction (it was walled off, apparently - nobody tells me anything), and I got to go shopping a bit.  The store looks a bit different every time I go.  I can't recall off-hand what it was I bought.

- This-all is because I took valerian, I figure.  I'm slowly starting to consider it to be a gateway drug - that being, a drug that takes me through that gateway, waha.  It also only lets me sleep for about six hours before it wakes me right the fuck up.  I slept more, and now I am beyond tired.

- I think I'm going to donate a bunch of my one-skein-at-best balls of yarn to this local thrift store (that specifically asks for yarn).  It's not useful for much else, to be honest, but I don't want to throw it away...  Or I'll post it to Freecycle or something, who knows.

- I want to stay in this process of processing yarn.  Right now, I have one bunch ready to be washed, one ready to be skeinified, and a box that is slowly filling up with yarn.  Tonight, I'll bust out a grocery bag for the <1ball balls of yarn.  I am dedicated to an empty closet.

- I covet this swiftCovet.  That and a C-clamp.  COVET.

- Once I ever get a laptop that functions as a laptop, I'm idly contemplating turning this TV set I have (don't ask) into a just-a-movie-player thing, using my current busted-ass laptop and... whatever cables are involved.

- This Sunday, I'll be getting an actual bed!  With like a frame and everything!  More impetus to clean my room tomorrow.  It's otherwise fine, just cluttered with yarn, and I want to sweep a bit.  And then I'm getting more sweaters!  All this from [livejournal.com profile] trista, who (a) is awesome and (b) will be moving to town soon omg omg yay.

The pawn shop near Josh's place has laptops for around $100.  Possibly more, but not much more.  I want one; my monitor hinges are wicked broken.

Once I get one that has more memory, I may install Ubuntu on this one.  I would do this now now right now, but (a) I don't have a Windows install CD in case of suckfest, and (b) this laptop only has 256MB of memory, and I figure Ubuntu uses more than that.

So there's my research project - what's needed for installing Ubuntu as dual-boot?

#1: .pdf Unofficial Ballot Returns – November 4, 2008 General Election – Oregon

I will be dropping off my ballot tomorrow, most likely, at which point I will become a statistic. *pleased*

#2: Copied from a comment I made here: "Some day, when I have time and infinite money, I want to devise something like Oh No Robot (comic strip transcription thing) for online videos and podcasts.  Maybe a wiki or something, so that anyone can contribute easily."

For example, Amanda at Pandagon posted a video in this post. So you you grab the URL from the YouTube video and plug it in at The Site(r). It grabs the video ID from the URL and redirects you to a page that has the current transcript for that video. If there's no transcript, you can create one, &c &c.

(For Vimeo videos, you can right-click on the title to copy the link. Hulu I don't know, I can't get videos to load for that one. Google Video, you can go to the GV page directly, then copy the URL.)

Hrm.

I suddenly have this burning need to write some sort of LJ client that would allow me to show all posts that do not have tags so that I can tag them, which means I need to watch a movie.
