J: Why is there a plant outside?
X: It was looking at me!  With big soulful anime eyes!  *sadface*
J: ...

It's a dwarf umbrella tree, or so I'm told.  It's about 3' tall, and it was just drooping like a drooper at the store.  I have always loved umbrella plants, for some odd reason, and it was shedding leaves and looking sad!  SAD!  So I took it home, removed the dead leaves, and took care of a few dead extensions that just came right out.

Information on how and when to prune a plant would be awesome.  This poor thing's sort of crowded, but I'm not exactly a gardener, so.

I suppose now it's time to invest in an automatic waterer...

Things.

* Website work is going well.  I'm learning a lot about PHP, which is nice.  Hee, three pages of to-dos.  Once those are done, I will be beyond pleased.  Nay, smug.

* Swelling-or-wtfever is down.  Still gonna investigate a dentist.  Still feeling mildly dizzy.

* Balance email totally matched what I have.  This is because I am awesome.  I now know exactly what I have, and what I can spend, and so forth.  Future iteration: create that faux-account nonsense.  Future == after another fortnight or so.

* I am trying to spritz my plant every morning.  It likes humidity, so I do what I can.  Note: must put hand towel on wall.  If I can keep this alive, then I'll look into another plant.  No more acquiring plants just because they're pretty.

Though maybe mint; as [livejournal.com profile] heinleinfan can attest to, mint will grow even if all you do is look at it cross-eyed once a year.  Plus [livejournal.com profile] penghuin likes mint juleps, so that's one use for 'em.

* I'm trying to use my projects tag more, so when I'm in want of something different to do, I can click the tag and see what's been in my head for the past [n] months.  V. pleasant.

* Also, knowing just how little I have sometimes makes me a bit upset with myself.  But, I made that additional reconciliation column, so now I know exactly what I have available.  Future iteration will combine this actual-money concept with an artificial-accounts thing, so I don't need to open anything else.

* I think that if I manage to set up a watering reminder and actually follow it for a while, then I'll let myself get another plant.  No more pretties until I can take care of the one I have.

Though it is notable that my current plant still lives.

Fret: what if I miswater my plant?  Response: get better.

* I kind of want a scooter.  Not like now, more like ever.  It'd be nice to not be tied to the bus if I want to do things like visit Josh for some of the day, or go out to the bar, or whatever.  Or my arms hurt and I want to go grocery shopping.  Or I want to go to the coast.  So, for my way-future reference.

* As always, I learn best through having projects.  I'm doing a bunch of tinkering to get this one website to do my bidding, so I'm learning a ton of PHP in the meantime.  This article on basic PHP security things seems not ungood, but it's from 2003, so I want to find something better.  (I need to, for example, block against SQL-based suck in the URL query string, this I know.)

If you have good links on basic-cat PHP (with MySQL) security things, this is the place for 'em.  Even if it's dirt-simple - I'm not an idiot, but I am a scatterbrain, and reminders are good.  Not to mention the part where I'm newish to PHP anyhow.

[eta] Fuck, I'm going to have to learn regex again.  *annoyed*

* My arms got betterish over the weekend, but they're starting to twinge, which means there's something about my work setup that's sub-par.  Alas.  It's probably the arms on this goddamn chair.  I'm trying to space typing out anyhow, just to be thorough, and I'm still not signed onto AIM.

* Part of yesterday was going to a friend's house for grilling.  Her roommate has the gardening bug, so she was raking and setting up a compost pile and digging a fire pit and so and so and so forth.  I wish I didn't kill plants through inattention, I would love to get a bit into container gardening - find some easy-to-grow vegetable that I like, and make that go.  Not necessarily for cooking, mostly just for the occasional munching-on.

I dunno, maybe if I set up reminders for watering...  *sad face*  This is why my loving kitties totally works - there's no set schedule of kitty-care.

* Blogspot has, by far, the shittiest commenting system known to thinking creatures.  Fucking hell.  And you'd think that with that in mind, third-party commenting systems (Disqus, IntenseDebate, Haloscan) would have, I dunno, options for importing Blogger comments.  And yet.  Fuckers.

Hokay.

* The visual dictionary's entry on a mushroomAnother image.  (Also one in Japanese.  ?)
* A-ha!  A fantastic resource on mushrooms.  Go to the end for images.  This is useful for...
* ...RogersMushrooms.com.

So:

- Convex, fibrous cap.  [eta] Could be conical.
- It has gills underneath, same colouring.
- Cream-coloured, with a dusky tip on the cap.
- Bulbous end to the stem ("end" = "just before it goes underground").  Actually, club-shaped, apparently.
- The ring is flared, just one.
- The stem is... I can't find my ruler, but it's neither spidery-thin nor chunkily-huge.
- The stem is currently not longer than the cap is wide, from what I can see.
- It's straight up, not off the side or weirdly diagonal.
- There's just the one - no clustering (yet, at any rate).

Also, a new picture.  It's still a bit blurry, but you can see most of what I described above in that image.

Probably a reeeally common type, but I know dick about mushrooms, so.  The links above are useful for knowing names and identifying marks, but are less so for narrowing down what this one is.

?????

Edited-to-add notes:

- The cap is vaguely rubbery.  The edges are tending to curl.

*frowns*  I posted these via Flickr's "Blog This" dealie, but apparently it didn't come through.

I have plant mushrooms.  What should I do?

Shtuff.

* I'm typing this from MY LAPTOP, which is of the happy.  I backed things up, uninstalled a bunch of crap, installed a bunch of different crap, and patted it.  Hoo-freakin'-ray.

* New friends list link - "Tell a friend".  Since, uh, 90% of yall are here, I'd prefer it link to update.bml, but whatevs.

* I got a new pot and some soil ("some") for Mr. Planty, who is growing like a plant owned by someone else does.  Bizarre!

* Hooray, more Heroes!

* Hooray, more yarn!  I miscalculated the amount of yarn for this commission, so B blessedly bought more yarn for me (I still have unhappy bank foo, and I could send elann.com a money order and buy from credit, but they only had 13 balls left, so).  *pats knitted teef*

* Weird question, mostly for those who do crafting commissions - have you ever tried to sell someone an idea, because you have this great idea for something they'd like?
