Incidentally, The King's Speech is a movie that I want to own the DVD copy of.  Apart from the first five minutes, which make my teeth crawl.  The movie is about a stammerer, and the first 3-4 minutes is of the stammerer addressing a stadium, and he never manages to say anything, though he does try.

But the rest of the movie is fantastic.  Josh and I found it to be an oh-that-person sorta film -- the second Dumbledore, Pettigrew or Beadle, Bellatrix Strange or Marla Singer, fucking Captain Barbossa hello, the guy from Memento, and the Professor from the end of the world in the 10th Doctor's Doctor Who.  Also, Colin Firth, who apparently has not yet become an oh-that-person in my head.

But regardless, I enjoyed the movie a great deal, and will probably purchase the DVD at some point, despite the embarrassment-squick-related horror-story opening.

In other news, I'm reading some free science fiction stuff that [livejournal.com profile] hitchhiker had posted a dog's age ago.  I'm slowly coming to realise why I don't really connect with this stuff (a major name in this genre is Doctorow, but it's really not just him) -- they're all boy's stories.  There are women in them, yes, but they're boy's stories.  I want to like them, because I don't dislike the genre, but meh.

In other other news, has anyone figured out why the RSS feed for Myth Adventures consistently displays for the day before?

Never mind, fuck it.  The blog and the site are on the same server, so it's xmlhttprequest for the win, and all RSS widgets can fucking burn in hell for all I care.

I want the latest WP blog posts to show up on a PHP front page.  It should not be this hard to get some sort of goddamn gadget going that parses an existing RSS link.  I'm trying this Google gadget, but it's not working.  It works when you go to that link, but when you click on "Add to your webpage", it shows nothing.

Compare that link (with XKCD) with the default for this gadget (using CNN).  And I tested using both the XKCD RSS and atom feed links.  Irritating.

I try Scalzi's feed with both feed=rss2 and and feed=rss, and it shows fine in the main page, but I get "Information is temporarily unavailable" in the "Add this" section.  Which is a lie; I can see his posts in my Google Reader just fine.

Is there something out there that does this for me, in a similar but working fashion?  Or can someone make the above work?
