If ever you thought I was a nice person, you should spend some time in my head when I'm on an airplane.  Due to chattery teenagers AGAIN WHY GOD, I had this complex contractual agreement drawn up with the devil - I trade my firstborn, and the devil instills a doom-speaking imp on the shoulders of every college-aged extroverted chatterboxing ninny, so that every time they feel the need to shriek with laughter (after 11p on a goddamn airplane), they get this incessant stream of doom.  "In the time it took you to say that, at least 200 people died of starvation.  In some places, there are little girls being exposed to the elements because they're not boys or firstborn.  You'll never find a job in your chosen major, not in this economy, and you'll be the only one in this group who this happens to.  One of the men in this group is a rapist, and you have no way of telling which one it is until it's too late.  How do you feel?"

I am secretly a not-good person.  But at least I don't talk about it on the goddamn plane at the top of my lungs to my seatmate and everyone around me.  I'm not incomprehensibly oblivious and also hateful.

In other news, after hours and hours on the plane, I have untangled... about a third of my new-found yarn.  It is periwinkle-ish and four-ply cotton happy, and I will use it to make this shawl, solely because I want to.

Since I am jittery now, I'm off to read up on Etsy terms of service.

I have two different pairs of noise-canceling headphones, one in-ear, and one a big pair of the over-the-ears DJ type.

On a plane, I leave them on even when I'm not listening to music.

Why?

Because if I have to listen to ONE MORE INANE TEENAGER CONVERSATION or anything about Jesus, or Insurance, or Grandchildren, I will, in fact, have an aneurysm.

God, yes. But is it just me? It's not only teenagers and Jesus and insurance and grandchildren, but there are also LOUD-TALKING SURGERY PEOPLE.

They discuss horrible surgical procedures at high volume mere feet from you, usually while you attempt to eat.

These people can never suffer enough.

For three LONG years, I traveled to Kuala Lumpur for work EIGHT TIMES A YEAR. Yes, you read that right, every six weeks, I was on a series of planes for 34 hours, each way.

If I hadn't had headphones, I would have killed them all.

And now they're talking about cell phones in the cabin?

I'll break someone's cell, by accident. Over and over.

I almost want to get the over-the-ear kind and then proper earbuds (I have ones that are earbuds, but with external stuff that fit over the ear, because it always feels like they're going to fall out), so I can listen to music and nothing else.  Oh god, that would be magnificent.
