I dunno from the rest of the movie, but so far, the camping trip in Star Trek V is cute beyond cute. I am charmed.
Who do I have to kill to find out what the Klingons were saying?
I have read too many ST:TOS books to appreciate the Romulan character. That's not how it goes.
I have forever disliked the scene in Star Trek VI where Uhura is mangling the Klingon language in order to gain access to Rura Penthe. She's a communications officer, for heaven's sake, and they've dealt with Klingons for approximately forever, what the hell! Seems I was justified:
Alas, back to the movie.

Nichelle Nichols complained that with the Klingons as the Federation's primary enemy, a good communications officer would be able to speak at least basic Klingon. Director Nicholas Meyer preferred to keep the scene as it was, for "the laugh."--source
Alas, back to the movie.

Oooooh, I wish Nichols could have stamped her foot and refused to to it!
Was the incompetence funny because the character is female? Is this "Lucy and Ethel on the Chocolate Line"?? because the character is black? Is this [insert the name of your least-favorite obnoxious racial stereotype here]?
Okay, maybe he was trying to show "stoopid earthling" instead of "stoopid woman" or "stoopid black person" but I DON'T CARE.
NOT FUNNY. Grrrr. Grrrr!!!
Thank you for letting me know Nichols at least tried to stick up for common sense.
