Oh god, I needed that.

Oh God I Needed That.

I went to a knitting thing at the Q Center, a place that seeks to "increase the visibility of and foster connection within metropolitan Portland’s Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Questioning (LGBTQ) community".  We knitted things and nattered about yarn, feminist stuff, racial stuff, kids, and dear god why is there no food nearby.

I am so going back next week.

Hell, I'm half-tempted to volunteer there.  I didn't know they existed!

An entire two hours with women and knitting and relaxing things.  Oh man.  Best part is, I managed to tamp down on anx by telling myself that a place for spreading understanding likely wouldn't have folk being all judgmental at me for, I dunno, being late.

Volunteering might not be a bad idea; it would most likely help you feel that you belong there, and the commitment would also encourage you to go even on days when you're not feeling so hot. I'm pushing this a bit because I think that despite your introversion, some positive social interaction in a comfortable environment would probably be good for you on depressed/anxious days, especially those days when you want to be social but the anx gets in the way. If you disagree then I shan't nudge further.

I sent an email to them.  *eep*  Unfortunately, it seems the only day I could do anything would be Sunday - unfortunate because... um...

Gosh, "work = M-F/8a-5p or thereabouts" is really, really ingrained in my head.  It's entirely likely that they don't have an influx of folk on a Sunday.  Heh.

I worry about volunteering even more than other things because that's people relying on me (not solely, I'm not insanely egocentric, but) and I know I'm going to fizzle.  But, between knitting and volunteering, maybe something'll work out.
