There's a new user agreement in place on LJ. You can read the original binding agreement here, or the English translation here. Time to skip town, those of you who haven't already!

Unfortunately, the LJ API now requires that you agree to their TOS before you can continue, making most LJ-export scripts unworkable. You could modify the scripts to accept the new API restriction... but odds are, if you are leaving because the new TOS sucks, you're not gonna want to accept it via scripting.

rosefox has a guide here for ad-blocking the TOS overlay. The instructions are almost certainly the same for Adblock/Plus. The two items to block:

##.b-fader
##.rutos.flatblue

Next stop, you can export your entries here. (HTTPS? What's that?) Downsides:

* You can only do journal entries, then comments.
* You can only do a month at a time.

I'm writing myself a quick-and-dirty Selenium script so that I do not have to do only one item at a time. I'll post it once I'm done, in case other people are similarly inclined.

Do you have any suggestions for ad-blocking the TOS in Firefox? uBlock Origin looks like it's Chrome-only.

Re blocking the TOS, uBlock Origin does exist for Firefox. But, it's just a web element, not really an ad per se, so you could use Stylish instead.

Steps:

* In the menu bar, select Stylish > Write new style > For livejournal.com.
* Call it something.
* Replace the entire body with this:

@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

@-moz-document domain("livejournal.com") {
div.flatblue.rutos, div.b-fader
  {
    display: none !important;
  }
}

* Success!

So it looks as though that does away with the overlay of the TOS, leaving behind a grey-tinted, normal-looking screen, but I still can't interact with things like links or comment boxes. Is that the intended effect—read-only?

I've got a couple of people left at LJ who refuse to make the jump. Or, you know, any jump. At least one of them is actually a really close friend, so I might have to suck it up for the crossposting. I'm not happy about this.
