If your Windows computer does those system beeps and you hate it:

* Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
* Expand System Tools and select Device Manager.
* From the View menu, select Show hidden devices.
* Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers.
* Right-click Beep, and select Disable.
* Reboot.

Oddly enough, I just had to look that up yesterday.

Then I had to look up how to do it in Red Hat, because VMWare manages to bypass Windows' settings on the subject.

Now I have to find out how to do it for Red Hat's shutdown beep, which doesn't honor the shell settings.
