If your Windows computer does those system beeps and you hate it:
* Right-click My Computer and select Manage.
* Expand System Tools and select Device Manager.
* From the View menu, select Show hidden devices.
* Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers.
* Right-click Beep, and select Disable.
* Reboot.

Date: 2009-01-30 04:52 pm (UTC)Then I had to look up how to do it in Red Hat, because VMWare manages to bypass Windows' settings on the subject.
Now I have to find out how to do it for Red Hat's shutdown beep, which doesn't honor the shell settings.
