I... I feel like I lose at geekery.  I asked B to check-see wtf was up with my laptop hating everything.  It would only connect to the network at his place, and nowhere else - claimed that Windows wasn't handling it, blah blah.

He asked if I'd checked the task manager, and I had... but apparently not closely enough.  I restarted the machine and closed all miscellany, then checked using Process Explorer.  And found the "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Tray Applet", that had been hiding from me.

And... there was the old network.  And look, the new network.

*massive facepalm o'clock*
