siderea points out this solution for the whole "comments go to email and to 'Inbox'" problem:
1) Go here, and under "Comments on your journal", enable "Receive email notifications when others comment".
2) Go here, and under "My Account", disable "Someone comments in my journal, on any entry". (Do this by checking the left-hand box.)
3) Only receive comment notifications in email; never see them in your Inbox.
I'm going to go change my profile to redirect "contact me" stuff to "use LJ". Sweeet.
