How many licks does it take... no, stop.

So apparently, gas can masquerade as searing pain in one area, front and to the right of my belly button. As in, gasping swearing pain. Go in, get a sans-kitties CAT scan, and they find... nothing. Well, a touch of maybe incipient pneumonia. Otherwise zip.
So, I get to tell my therp that I went through another of my worries unscathed. (That being, going to a doctor-type and saying "This hurts" and they don't find anything. Hey, they didn't mock me!)
I'm assuming it was gas because wtf else could it have been? Not muscle pain, as it wasn't tender to the touch. Not cramps, as that's more towards the center. Not appendicitis, because that has other symptoms, including tenderness when pressed.

Date: 2008-01-05 03:06 pm (UTC)I figure, if a nurse of several years' experience decided it was serious and went to the emergency room over it, anyone else has every right to worry and get it checked out. Because, pain like whoah is usually a warning sign, right? The body doesn't generally say "Oh hey, today's kind of boring, let's just throw a wrench into the works and cause you a lot of pain for no good reason, won't that be fun?"

I felt dumb about it until my MIL had the same symptoms, and almost died of a bowel blockage. So, there you go.
I'm glad you had it checked out. Best to be on the safe side when it could be something like that.
*hugs*

Date: 2008-01-05 07:18 pm (UTC)$3000 emergency room and a ruined crockpot of chicken soup later, turns out he was very dehyrdated, having not eaten for almost a day, but otherwise, nothing. Nada. Zip. Just "Oh, well, here's some morphine and some fluids. Feel better soon. We'll send you the bill."
I mean, yay for it not being something serious and deadly, but for $3000 you'd think the doctors could have at least made something up instead of "Welp, nothing wrong with you!"
