Today, I'm reading about identity theft, for some reason.  Here's a list of advice for prevention and such:

Also, preapproved credit card offers not only waste paper and your time, they increase the chances of identity theft, since each one is one more document with a bunch of your info on it.  So, go to OptOutPrescreen.com (which is endorsed by the FTC) and opt out of receiving them.

I'm a big fan of GreenDimes, which gets people off catalog lists and plants trees as well. Our junk mail load has shrunk remarkably since we signed up with them.
