Via an LJ-friend:

User Interface Design for Programmers

Don't let the title scare you away.  The article is very user-friendly (ha), and it's chock-full of things that are neat and useful, both from a programmer's and a user's perspective.

Archaeology!

This is one of those articles where I want to be sitting next to someone and exclaiming in agreeance every few minutes.

I find interface design and programming an interesting pair. Since I've had to think of both navigability and aesthetics while building client websites, I empathize with those who are building SERIOUS websites that must balance both.

My husband is a software engineer - UI designer, specifically. What makes him special is his degrees are in Mechanical Engineering. This has always given him a great perspective, I think, since he has worked on both ends of the process.

I don't like Joel very much as a person, but he does give good blog.

I'm also amused to realize that if the Juno CEO he keeps mentioning is who I think it is, he just won an Edgar for his writing. Those wordy dialog boxes may have been entirely inappropriate, but look what they started!

Oooh. Thank you - that's tasty!

*ponders e-mailing it to boss as preface to the conversation we need to have about why the new kiosk-authoring application he had custom-built for us sucks so very, very badly*
