nonethefewer: A laughing 8-bit dog holding a duck. From Duck Hunt. (laughing)
the_xtina: I almost want to post this because cute, except I'd have to explain the ducks.
the_xtina: But what if I didn't!
rosefox: my post explains the ducks
rosefox: kind of
the_xtina: I need to put away the brain, perhaps.
rosefox: so you could just link to it
rosefox: insofar as the ducks can be explained
the_xtina: Where's the fun in that?
nonethefewer: (baffled.yes!)
On the other hand, I don't want to lay claim to real disability stuff.

On one hand, though, I want to state outright, to anyone I talk to, that I am hard of hearing.  That way, maybe they'll speak up, or talk to me rather than facing away from me, so I have a chance in hell of hearing them.

(I don't read lips, but it is so easier to get the gist of something if I can get as many inputs as possible.)

I mean, technically, I am hard of hearing.  If you're facing away from me and blurring all your phonemes into one giant conversational clusterfuck, then it is hard for me to hear you.

Oo, I can also drink ginger ale in the morning.  *adds to the list*

The list of things I can consume within an hour or so of getting up:

* coffee
* toast, maybe
* ginger ale, so far as I can tell

Note that water isn't on the list.

Three things also:

1) Maybe saying I'm hard of hearing will get people to be less frustrated with me when I ask them to speak up... no, keep speaking up... jesus fuck, stop speaking up for one line and then immediately reverting to mumbly!  Nrr.

2) I love DVDs because for most of them, I can turn on the closed captioning feature, so I can catch what people are saying without having to turn the TV up loud enough to bother others.

3) I worry I won't get good care or sympathy or whatever because I've likely damaged my hearing my ownself.  My response: so?  Still have a problem, still should get it fixed.

4) Hey, there's a free hearing test place nearby, perhaps I should go to it today.
