DW

I wonder if there's some sort of thing where you plug in your DW name, it goes through your list of mutuals, and it suggests users based on overlapping similarities.

Like, I'm a mutual with dw_sample_bot and dw_bot_sample. I'm not connected to dw_butts_lol, but both dw_sample_bot and dw_bot_sample are, so the service says "two of your mutuals follow dw_butts_lol... maybe check them out?". Where "mutuals" I mean "access", though there could be a separate column for reading-mutuals as well.

It's a thought.

Back up your Dreamwidth account.

For the record, you can back up your Dreamwidth account using ljdump. The first run takes foreeever. Subsequent runs are quick, as they just synchronize new/updated/deleted items.

This does use Python. I wish there were an easier way to do everything.

Three things.

With this visit1, this makes five women I've seen in person who (a) don't shave their legs, and yet (b) still have less hair on their legs than me.  I must've been spliced with a freakin' bear in the womb, or something.  A bear with a watermelon head2.

1] I'm in New York in the summer.

2] I joke that I was spliced with a watermelon in the womb, which explains my gargantuan, default-hat-useless head.

If you are crossposting from DW to LJ, please consider enabling display of the crossposted link.  It's not some wretched deal-killer or anything, it's just that I want to get to the LJ post quicker than going to the individual LJ, or keeping the person on my default view in both sites.

I'm currently using Mediawiki at work, but I want something... better.

Criteria, that I can remember. )

No but I mean, if you need DW codes, I have approximately one zillion of them.

A note, that I may have noted before, for those of you who are on Dreamwidth and are crossposting to Livejournal:

In case you weren't aware, there's an option here to display the crosspost link on your DW post.  (So, this post on DW will have a link to the crossposted post on LJ.)  This is helpful for me, because then I can read additional comments without having to (a) keep you in my default view in both places* or (b) go to your LJ directly and find the post.

* I've been trying to wean myself off of LJ, so those who are on DW and crossposting, I remove from my default view on LJ.

If not then not, no worries, just figured I'd mention.

On the one hand, I don't want to rub it in, or anything.

On the other hand, I do have 5 Dreamwidth invite codes.

--

[eta] Rub it in re the whole LJ DDoS nonsense, I mean.  I wasn't gloating about invite codes, or anything.

And I in fact have 16 total.  I just received one from DW, so I looked, and thought I had 5, because I can't read.

I'm playing this Flash game, and Josh noted that the dragons are future space dragons.  Of course, they are Pern dragons.

Later:

X: Yes, darken the sky with dragons.
J: Perneate the sky?
X: ...I dislike you.
J: I learned it from watching you!

In other news, if you're one of those who're using the for-DW Greasemonkey script for inserting usernames when in HTML view, there's an upgrade, as DW is going to allow for Twitter.com to be one of the "site" parameters for "user" in their next rollout.

Why hello!

Ahhh, bliss.

LJ Notes-like thing for Dreamwidth.

And then:

LJ Notes-like thing for LJ.  (My paid account has lapsed on LJ, and I have no intention of buying any more time (and do not want such a thing, pls), but I do miss notes).

The only downside is, it's browser-specific.  But, I'm sure with a bit of tinkering, I can set up syncing somewhere s s s.

Meow!

Not crossposted!

I am slowly resubscribing to folk here on DW.  I was mired in habit, where "habit" equates to "type T in the address bar and my LJ friends list loads", and it was only later that I decided I want to be more on DW.

Sorry for the confusion!  Insofar as this is a pressing matter at all!

As a note, once Dreamwidth support folk get my issue resolved, I'm going to be importing all content over from [livejournal.com profile] ladytabitha and [livejournal.com profile] the_xtina to here, deleting my [livejournal.com profile] ladytabitha account, and probably moving primarily over to Dreamwidth.

I'll still cross-post to Livejournal, but to be honest, (a) I like DW and what it stands for, and (b) I'm really tired of waiting to find out how LJ's gonna fuck shit up today, approximately in that order, so whatevs whatevs.

A rare DW-only post. [eta] Except no.

Note: It really only just now sunk in that yes Virginia, there is a difference in Dreamwidth between reading and giving access to.  I'm still stuck in LJ-land, where in order to not read someone but not defriend them, I have to make a filter.

So!  If you got a note that I've stopped reading you, this is entirely because as far as I can tell, all of your posts are cross-posted to LJ, I'm on your flist on LJ, and you provide a link to your DW post.  I primarily read LJ, so I don't want to duplicate my reading efforts.

That was it!

[edit] Dear Captain Doofus: If these folk xpost all of their posts to LJ, what're the odds that they only read their LJ flist, too, and thus will not see this note?  Adurr?

Have I asked this before?

Where the eff are all the Dreamwidth proselytisers?  I see enthusiastic-for-DW folk, and folk on DW, and that's about it.  I read more complaints about proselytisers (and statements of "so therefore I'm not moving to DW!", thus further proving my "we are all 12" theory) than I have statements of how LJ sucks and everyone should move to DW *flounce*.

Mneh.

As a general FYI:

In Dreamwidth, you can do these steps:

* Go to managing your crosspost settings.

* For each crossposty setup, click Change.

* Check the box "Display Cross Post Links".

Et voila!  Now, when you crosspost a post from DW to another place, your DW post will contain a link to said place (or places, obvs) in the metadata block.

This was in a news post, but somehow I missed it though I read all those posts, so I figured I'd share.  Plus it's somewhat selfish; I'm pretty lazy when it comes to "who said what on the crossposted post?".
