A long-ago boss once confessed in hushed tones that her surname, Zimmermann, meant "men's room". And indeed, "zimmer" is "room" and "mann" is "man" in German.

"Carpenter". "Man who makes rooms", not "men's room".

there's an indian surname, 'mahalingam', that literally means 'big dick' :)

My favorite occupational surname is "Nonnemacher". "Shumacher" is "shoe maker", so "Nonnemacher" looks like "none maker", which seems kinda harsh.

Turns out it's an old occupation name for a castrator of pigs. Which is maybe better or maybe worse. I'm not sure.
