With NyQuil, and a Benadryl, I am awake.

With a brick, and a crowbar, I am still conscious.

Somewhere in the last 3-4 years, I developed a serious sensitivity to the decongestants used in Nyquil (both pseudoephedrine and the new stuff): the other ingredients still hit my brain like a lead ingot falling from a tall building, but although reduced to a state of near-drooling catatonia by the other ingredients I couldn't actually fall asleep. So I'd just spend entire nights while sick lying on my back in bed waiting for the world to stop spinning.

So yeah, I feel your pain.

(FWIW, I found that a combination of Benadryl, a hot toddy and a neti pot would usually let me get a few hours blessed sleep. YMMV.)
