I've seen this too many times and it's too hard a typo to make for it to always be an accident.

"I would prefer to do the driving, (even though I'm more tired than you) because you have to get up in the morning."

Why why why is the comma before the parenthetical?

Dunno. I never put a comma there.

Actually, I personally wouldn't use parentheses there at all. "I would prefer to do the driving, even though I'm more tired than you, because you have to get up in the morning."

Because, people don't know, where commas, go?

Because they're trying to write it in the same way it would be spoken, with pauses before and after "even though I'm more tired than you," and don't know how to use parentheticals with regard to punctuation.
